Sometimes you just want to take time to work out straight

Well it’s been quite some time since I last posted so news and information on my progress. It’s because I just wanted to take some good time to fully concentrate on my work and get it complete and to a certain finished stage.

So I have completed and finished modelling my mech. That means the legs, arms and body is complete. I want to move onto rigging the model for animation. At the moment I'm still getting used to rigging it a difficult process. Hopefully I make a lot more progress but at the moment I leave you with a few picture of my progress.

Slow but steady wins the race

What I achieved yesterday before finishing off my arms for my mech completely I wanted to build the body first. I always had the idea of having some sort of escape method onto the mech. So I came to the idea of having a “hover bike”. This hover bike will be on the back off the mech and launcher for quick escape when you mech about to be demolished.

With this though I had to sketch out first what I wanted the bike to look like and how it would transform from “mech form” to “driving form”. Then I sketched out what I imagine the front and the back off my mech body to look like.

Still moving

The progression still continue. Today I managed to draw my mechs right arm by finalizing it into one final drawing which I was going to model off. One I completed the drawing I began modelling the mechs right arm. I think it went well and I have progressed gradually well. I hopefully am looking to draw my final presentation of the mechs body, so I can attach the arms to the body.

There are some photos below of my progress.

What is my brief about then?

So what’s my brief about then? In my brief I hope to create a mechanical robot that is piloted by a human player, in a game world environment.
This mech should be textured fully and put into a game engine. I hope to make fully working interactive motions of walking/running and maybe shooting and other mechanics. I hope to incorporate it into and unique game world of my choice of I still haven't figured out of what I want it too look like as off yet. But later I will produce conceptual art of the game world. At the moment I am still modelling my mech in Maya and hope to complete it by the end of the week and get onto the arts I still have to learn like uv texturing and rigging. So here’s and basic bullet point rundown of what I want to achieve in my brief.

·        Mech Model Completely Built
·        Mech Model Textured
·        Mech Model Rigged
·        Mech Model Animated
·        Mech model put in engine
·        Mech Model Working In Engine
·        Game Environment Built in engine

A bit late but better late than never, The progression

Well what have I managed to achieve so far over these two days you ask me? Well I managed to finish my mechs left arm concept art and also managed to model it in Maya fully to how it looks on paper (except the upper part of the arm at the moment. I continuing my concept art of my mech drawing the body and arms and other parts. In the next post I will explain the whole point of this project.

That is to create a brief and explain what my brief will be about. I will explain that in my next post later on today. In the meantime I will leave you with some pictures of my progress.

It begins today!

The final project for the year begins today. I’m excited, nervous and holding anticipation all in one. This year has gone so fast it feels like yesterday when I just started college. For this brief we got assigned to start and create our own brief. I came up with first initial ideas throughout the holiday in my head. My first idea was to start off where I finished on the 3D project “Timmy” and add more floors make the experience more thrilling adding in the cut scenes and doing a bit more to make the game a bit more polished.

My other idea was to continue and finish my mech model. Rig it (add bone movement ect) and texture it put it in an engine with an playable in game environment. I think this will be a better task for me to accomplish. I know how to build levels well and model well but I got to learn how to uv texture and rig models to work in engine. Today I hope to accomplish to finish all concept art for my mech model. Also for this blog I hope to video log my development process. And I hope you enjoy.
